What I do NOT want is bouts of morning sickness at night, or any other time of day for that matter.
What I do want is my visa to go to Canada. Sydney was suppose to start work there on 1 March 2010… yes, that day has come and gone and we are still graciously waiting (ok really not that graciously) for our visas to be mounted in our Passports and sent back to us. Being ‘late for work’ by days, not hours or minutes is really not the ideal way to start your working relationship. I can honestly say, this is the most frustrating wait I’ve ever experienced in my life ever! So even more frustrating for a pregnant woman than waiting for the visas is finding a shop that actually sells ‘Ysies!’ Directly translated, ‘little ice’ pronounced [I-sees]. You know, the ice suckers you used to buy at the school tuck shop? The little bag filled with juice or a really colourful and potent mixture which includes the ingredient that can turn little cute kids into little hyperactive monsters! So even though the potent mix is nice and sweet, I will gladly settle for any ice, as long as it’s not water ice cubes. I mean those are great too, to cool you down in a glass with juice or water and I still collect my dose from the neighbours but what I really want is the frozen ‘Ysies’. Not Ice Lollies or Ice Cream. Because we cannot freeze these ‘Ysies’ (remember the bar fridge referred to previously), we need to buy them already frozen. Therefore, if you know of any shops that sell these in a frozen state, please call me! Poor Sydney. Even the shop assistants hide “Here comes the poor guy with the crazy pregnant wife again. Someone help him!” Even little Nathan is a bit confused by it all because I keep saying that I want to eat an “Ysie”. Now the neighbour’s dog’s name is also Ysie… you get where this is going. I definitely feel there is a gap in the market and I will even share my wisdom on the topic. A shop for pregnant woman. No… not a boutique with overpriced maternity wear or a shop with baby accessories which includes weird (sorry, I mean modern) items such as triangle shaped cots at ridiculous prices. I am talking about a chain store, located between every PEP and Foschini store, which stock food and beverages for pregnant woman. Supply on demand. The motto should be something like… If your husband can’t find it, we WILL! So back to the important stuff. The little one is now 9 weeks old… Actually 2 months sounds better. Carries more weight, and I’ve noticed, so do I. Even during the worst and most frustrating times, you cannot dismiss the miracle that is within you; “Baby has begun movement, although too small for you to feel.” “Your little one is practicing bending and flexing.” “Baby will curve its fingers around an object.” “Fingerprints already evident in the skin?!” Average size: 2.3cm or about 1 inch. www.pregnancy.org . Because we should have been in Canada by now, I haven’t been to the Drs yet for my first scan. Saying this, I only went for my first scan during my first pregnancy at 11 weeks. Still, I am really looking forward to seeing the little one, but this will probably only happen at 18 – 20 weeks. This is when healthy pregnant woman have their one routine scan in Canada. What I am also looking forward to, is eating properly again. Getting all the nutrients I need not only for the baby, but for myself as well. Foods that will allow me to stay awake for more than 4 hours at a time! For this week Rice Crispies have been replaced with Corn Flakes and I have completely gone off fish and potatoes. I have however found and fallen in love with Sesame Snaps and had a one day love affair with biltong. At least I got some proteins. The first tip I found when opening my first pregnancy magazine, printed in the middle of the page on a big red star read: “Tip: It’s not a good idea to move house when you are pregnant”. Ok, let’s reflect on my first pregnancy. Moved house at 15 weeks and again 1 week before Nathan was born. Second pregnancy; moving out of our house, back to Sydney’s parents for a couple of days, and then ‘moving’ abroad. Luckily we have a house set up for us there already, so no more moving after our move to Canada! Just wanted to say that even though it’s written in black on a red star in a pregnancy magazine, it can be done, so here’s to all the pregnant ladies with their own challenges this week! Feel free to share; it will definitely make me feel better!
